The Running of the Deer (song)

Come live with me and be my love, in the springtime of the year
Dance joyous with the honeybee, and with the running deer

May your heart always be happy and your singing always clear
May you run forever fair and free, with the running of the deer

Come and light the Beltane fires that promise fertile crops
Pull flowers from the woodland, and from the mountain tops

Drive the cattle through the flames, and leap the raging fires
Look into my loving eyes and see my heart’s desires

May your heart always be happy and your singing always clear
May you run forever fair and free, with the running of the deer

By hare and hound and trout and wren, by land and sky and sea
But the mighty lord of stags and the dancing honeybee

By the spin of moon and stars, and the cooing turtle dove
In the springtime of the year, come and be my love

May your heart always be happy and your singing always clear
May you run forever fair and free, with the running of the deer

  1. This was the first piece I read in my email today, and it was exactly what I’ve enjoyed always about yoour writing. It has a cadence that pulls your through to the end. Romantic and lyrical and very vivid, it was so visual. Just beautiful.
